Where I'm From

I am from royalty, a crown on my head,

Stories of glory and whispers are spread.
From relatives praising, though envy still grows,
I walk through their shadows, and the truth always shows.

I am from pockets of stones that I keep,
Memories heavy, silence and laughter runs deep.
From beaches and sidewalks, each pebble I find,
A marker of places I’ll never rewind.
I am from homemade pulihora, served to the gods in the light of day,

Dancing in Diwali, I can hear the cheers and the “yay!”
From hours of puja and functions, plus heartwarming Indian food,

From rituals done with sparks and with light,
The colors dance across the night.
I am from laughter, yet sharp in the fight,
A planner, a dreamer who shines in the night.

From lies that surround me dissolve in my flame,

And truth is the sword that carries my name.
I am from wisdom, both ancient and new,
From heartbreak and healing my strength only grew.
My path is my own, my spirit will soar,
For I am the leader they cannot ignore.
